We all knew it was going to be a hot and sweaty hike up the Wulguru Hills Thursday evening after the rain we’ve had in the past few days.
As we left the comfort of our airconditioned cars, the group headed up to the water tank to take in the view across Townsville. After taking a few snaps we continued onwards up the hills with the stifling 82% humidity making itself well known amongst even the experienced hikers.
Making it to the summit we were able to sit and enjoy the view of Townsvilles night lights and lightning to the north while enjoying the picnic feast. The rain had cleared most of the dust and smoke haze from the atmosphere making the outlook crystal clear.
We then donned our headlamps and made our way back down, joined on the way by 1 million flying ants. We were careful not to open our mouths too wide when talking in fear of having flying ant for dessert.
We joined the rest of the hikers who had made their stop halfway up to rest and enjoy their view, then continued back to the comfort of our airconditioned cars once again.
I think everyone – the regular crew and the new faces, put in a stellar effort considering the conditions.
