Bivouac Junction is a family and pet friendly holiday park located on private property at the junction of the Burdekin and Fanning Rivers.

The park is open 365 days a year and is perfect for a quite getaway in natural bush surrounds.

The holiday park offers powered and unpowered sites, as well as air conditioned, self contained cabins overlooking the junction.

The amenities block has been recently renovated and offers showers, toilets and there is an on site pool for those that may not with to swim at the junction.

Take some time to check out the many historical artifacts and items collected by the owners of the holiday park which are on display under the covered area near the BBQ’s. The holiday park has been underwater numerous times over the years when the mighty Burdekin river is in flood, and pictures on display showing the many floods over the years and water levels at the holiday park are sure to amaze you.

Camp by the banks of the junction and wake up to the local birdlife and more than likely a friendly kangaroo or wallaby close by!

Sunrises and sunsets from the banks of the junction are a photographers dream. The junction also offers superb views of the Macrossan Bridge which is visible on the horizon to the south.

You may choose to go fishing or borrow one of the holiday park’s canoes or kayaks free of charge for some added adventure. Bushwalking and hiking is also allowed along the banks of the Burdekin and Fanning Rivers close to the park.

Please ensure you ‘leave no trace’, take all rubbish away with you and refrain from taking glass into the river.

How to get there

The turn off to Bivouac Junction is located 110 kilometres west of Townsville and 20 kilometres east of Charters Towers on the Flinders Highway.

From Townsville, turn north off the Flinders Highway 600 metres east of the Macrossan Bridge over the Burdekin River. You will be on a well maintained gravel road. After 1.3 kilometres, turn left onto Bivouac Junction Road and the campsites and managers office are 800 metres away.

Do not venture off Bivouac Junction Road onto any of the private property roads.
